The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs reported that the security situation in Ag Geneina city in western Darfur, Sudan, is stable, but remains tense and unpredictable.
According to the UN agency, more than 230,000 people were displaced by the con\ufb02ict in Darfur since the beginning of this year which is more than four times the 53,000 people displaced by the conflict in all of 2020.
At the daily press conference, the Deputy Spokesperson for the Secretary-General, Farhan Haq, noted that the most important needs of the newly displaced are food, protection, shelter and water.
The United Nations has warned that, with the rainy season approaching, expanding the humanitarian response will be a major challenge given the current limited capacity and funding shortfalls. To date, only 10 percent of the Humanitarian Response Plan has been funded.
Bloody clashes broke out on April 3 in the Ag Geneina area, just 20 kilometers from the Sudanese-Chadian border, after unidentified men shot men from the Masalit tribes, who were on their way to the town of Al-Geneina, killing two and wounding two others.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
