With the anniversary of the Wahhabi attack on the holy city of Karbala and according to the recommendations of Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Sadiq al-Husseini al-Shirazi, the 19th day of Dhu al-Hijjahis called the International Day of Karbala.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Sources confirmed that the naming came in order to commemorate the painful and severe day – the day of the Wahhabi attack on the holy city of Karbala on the day of Eid al-Ghadeer in 1216 AH.<\/p>\n
According to history, a day before the attack, the Wahhabis, headed by the Saudi king at the time Saud bin Abdul Aziz, son of Abdul Aziz bin Mohammed, and with the participation of 12,000 Badia men from the cities of Najd and Hijaz, stormed the holy city of Karbala, taking advantage of the occasion of Eid al-Ghadir as Shia men go to Najaf on that day.<\/p>\n
“The Wahhabis entered the holy city of Karbala with great difficulty and then they killed people and destroyed the buildings of the two holy shrines of Imam Hussein and his brother Abi al-Fadl al-Abbas, peace be upon them, looting valuables and then setting fire to these holy sites,\u201d narrates the late cleric al-Ameeni.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The Wahhabis killed tens of thousands of women, elderly people, and children without mercy.\u00a0<\/p>\n
According to accounts, 7,000 people were killed,500 inside the holy shrine and 50 next to the holy shrine, while more than 20,000 were injured,\u00a0<\/p>\n
Based on the painful events that took place in the holy city of Karbala on the 18th of the month of Dhu al-Hijjah, which coincides with the day of Ghadir, the next day was marked by the International Day of Karbala’s Oppression by His Eminence al-Shirazi.<\/p>\n
Al-Shirazi says the Wahhabi attack on the holy city of Karbala is a repetition of the despicable and brutal hostility of the Umayyad dynasty on the day of Ashura.<\/p>\n
