King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa signed off on \u201cThe Exercise of Political Rights,\u201d an amended version of the kingdom\u2019s election law which passed the National Assembly in late May, the official Bahrain News Agency reported.<\/p>\n
The new version prohibits \u201cleaders and members of political associations dissolved for violating the kingdom\u2019s constitution or its laws\u201d from standing in the elections.<\/p>\n
It also bans anyone \u201cconvicted of a felony, even if they have been granted amnesty.\u201d<\/p>\n
The measure is viewed as an attempt by the regime in Manama to bar dissidents from entering the 40-seat parliament ahead of the elections in November.<\/p>\n
