The Saudi-led restrictions on Yemen\u2019s airspace and the closure of its main airport in Sana\u2019a have led to the deaths of over 10,000 people in the impoverished Arab nation over the past year, a rights group says.\\<\/p>\n
On Wednesday, the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) along with 14 other aid organizations called on warring parties in Yemen to reopen Sana\u2019a International Airport, warning that the year-long closure hinders the flow of humanitarian aid and prevents thousands of patients from flying abroad for life-saving treatment.<\/p>\n
\u201cDenial of access to travel has condemned thousands of Yemenis with survivable illnesses to death,\u201d the NRC\u2019s Director in Yemen Mutasim Hamdan said in a statement.<\/p>\n
\u201cWithout access to safe, commercial travel, Yemenis are left with no way to access critical medical care,\u201d further said the statement. \u201cThe result is devastating. Thousands of women, men and children who could have been saved lost their lives.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Saudi-led coalition has imposed a no-fly zone over Yemen amid its deadly bombing campaign against the country, which began in March 2015.<\/p>\n
