Yemen’s Health Ministry has declared a state of emergency in the capital Sana’a, which is being run by the Ansarullah Houthi movement, as the International Committee of the Red Cross says cholera has claimed at least 115 lives and left thousands more ill.<\/p>\n

The ministry urged humanitarian organizations and aid donors to help avert an “unprecedented disaster” caused by the epidemic, Saba news agency reported.<\/h4>\n

Meanwhile, ICRC director of operations, Dominik Stillhart, said in a news conference in Sana\u2019a on Sunday that the deaths had occurred between April 27 and May 13.<\/h4>\n

“We now are facing a serious outbreak of cholera,” Stillhart said, citing figures compiled by the Health Ministry.<\/h4>\n

Over 8,500 suspected cases of the waterborne disease were reported in the same period in 14 governorates across Yemen, Stillhart added.<\/h4>\n
