Ghadir Khum is the name of the place that lies between the holy cities of Mecca and Medina; it is the place where Imam Ali was chosen to be the Prophet’s successor.<\/p>\n
Ghadir, in Arabic, translates to a place where water accumulates after heavy rainfall or floods. On the flood path that flows from the west to the east of Saudi Arabia and then to the Red Sea, there are multiple pools of water or reservoirs containing rainwater collected throughout the year.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Ghadir Khum is about two hundred kilometers away from Mecca and three hundred kilometers from Medina. It is located between the mountain range stretching from north to south where desert trees are widespread in the region.<\/p>\n
The ponds in this area are distinguished as they do not get dry all year round. The area is a resting place for those who come from Mecca before arriving to Jihfa intersection.<\/p>\n
