Academic Calls on Shia and Sunni Seminaries to Use AI in Hadith Authentication

——————————————

Dr. Ali Paya, a researcher and professor of philosophy, has proposed a joint initiative involving the seminaries of Qom and Najaf and Egypt’s Al-Azhar to use advanced artificial intelligence technologies in examining and authenticating Hadiths in major Shia and Sunni sources.

In a memorandum addressed to the three religious institutions, Paya suggested using multiple AI systems to analyze Hadith texts, chains of narrators and historical contexts, identify the most reliable narrations, and compare the findings with existing scholarly research. He emphasized that the results must undergo final review and verification by qualified religious scholars to ensure accuracy and prevent potential errors or bias.

The proposal seeks to expand the use of artificial intelligence beyond the traditional functions of indexing and classifying religious texts, turning it into a tool for comparative research and scholarly evaluation. According to Paya, implementing the initiative could provide a more thoroughly examined Hadith reference to support religious scholars, researchers and academic studies in Islamic jurisprudence and Hadith sciences.
