UK Investigative Report Exposes Alleged Racist and Anti-Muslim Remarks Within Reform UK

————————————————

A covert journalistic investigation in the United Kingdom has triggered widespread criticism and calls for accountability after recordings allegedly captured members and local officials of the right-wing Reform UK party making racist, anti-Muslim and anti-immigrant remarks, including calls to detain asylum seekers in internment camps and deport people on the basis of their ethnic background.

According to The Guardian, the investigation was conducted by ITV over approximately a year. Journalists gained access to circles of party candidates and local officials, documenting conversations that reportedly included racist and religious slurs, threats of violence and offensive comments about women.

Among the most controversial recordings was one involving a prospective parliamentary candidate for Reform UK who called for asylum seekers to be placed in “internment camps” and questioned whether Muslims could be considered British citizens while continuing to practise their religion. The remarks prompted criticism over their targeting of Muslims on the basis of religious identity.

Other recordings allegedly captured elected officials making derogatory comments about Muslims and Black children. One local councillor reportedly called for people of Asian origin to be deported to Pakistan.

The investigation also implicated Alan Feeney, a former local councillor and former deputy mayor of Solihull. In a recorded conversation, he reportedly described areas inhabited by Asian communities as having been subjected to what he called an “invasion” and argued that non-white people should account for no more than one per cent of Britain’s population.

In another recording, a local councillor allegedly claimed that King Charles III was Muslim before calling for his beheading. Additional recordings reportedly contained threats of violence and sexually offensive remarks about women working within the party.

The revelations have prompted calls for resignations and disciplinary action against those implicated. Reform UK announced internal investigations and suspended some members, while several officials resigned or left the party following the publication of the recordings. The party has maintained that racism has no place within its ranks, while criticizing the methods used by ITV’s undercover journalists, accusing them of deception and provocation.

Party leader Nigel Farage defended the candidate-vetting process, arguing that it is impossible to predict every statement individuals might make, particularly in conversations he characterized as provocative. He also accused the investigation of being politically motivated and designed to undermine his party. The controversy has nevertheless intensified scrutiny of Reform UK’s procedures for selecting candidates and responding to allegations of discriminatory conduct.

The Muslim Council of Britain also expressed concern over the findings, warning about the consequences of elected representatives using language that demeans Muslims or advocates collective deportation. The controversy has renewed broader questions about political accountability and the impact of anti-Muslim rhetoric on religious minorities across the country.

The investigation comes amid an increase in recorded religious hate crimes in England and Wales. Figures published by the UK Home Office on October 8, 2026, showed that police-recorded religious hate crimes targeting Muslims rose by 15 per cent, from 4,479 offences in the year ending March 2025 to 5,132 in the year ending March 2026. Muslims accounted for the largest number of recorded religious hate crimes among the groups identified in the statistics.

Separately, the anti-Muslim hate monitoring organization Tell MAMA reported receiving 6,313 reports of anti-Muslim incidents in 2024, which it described as its highest annual total since the organization was established.
