The installation of an official sign featuring a mosque symbol and Friday prayer times in the German city of Penzberg has sparked debate among local residents. The initiative aims to display information about Islamic religious practices on signs positioned at the city’s entrances.

According to circulating reports, the sign includes a mosque symbol alongside information about Friday prayer times during the winter and summer periods. The initiative has been described in reports as the first of its kind in Germany, although independent confirmation of that claim was not provided in the available information.

The measure forms part of a project to incorporate Friday prayer information into official municipal signage, allowing residents and visitors to learn when the weekly Muslim congregational prayer takes place.

The appearance of the Islamic symbol on the sign has prompted a local discussion about whether religious information should be included on official signs in German cities.
