————————————–

The Taliban authorities in Afghanistan have reportedly ordered the suspension of BBC radio broadcasts on FM frequencies across the country, according to the submitted report. Local sources cited in the report attributed the decision to alleged violations of the Taliban’s media policies.

The BBC has previously provided programming in Persian, Pashto and English for audiences in Afghanistan. The report states that the broadcaster is in discussions with Taliban officials in an effort to resume its broadcasts. However, these details could not be independently confirmed through an official BBC statement or a reliable secondary source.

Since returning to power in August 2021, the Taliban have imposed restrictions on media activity in Afghanistan, raising concerns among press freedom organizations about censorship and the operating environment for independent journalism. The specific nationwide FM suspension described in this report remains unverified pending confirmation from the BBC or other reliable sources.
