————————————–

Reports that hijab-wearing students were prevented from entering schools in Azerbaijan’s Jalilabad district have sparked concerns over religious freedom and equal access to education, amid ongoing debate over restrictions on religious attire in educational institutions.

According to local reports and circulating video footage, several female students wearing hijabs were stopped from entering their schools and sent back home because of their religious clothing.

The incident has renewed discussion over the balance between Azerbaijan’s secular education policies and students’ rights to express their religious beliefs, particularly regarding Muslim girls who choose to wear the hijab.

Critics of the reported measures have warned that such restrictions could affect students’ ability to continue their education without discrimination based on religious appearance, calling for equal educational opportunities and respect for freedom of belief.

The Azerbaijani authorities have not issued an official statement confirming the incident, and details regarding the number of students affected and the specific measures taken remain unclear.
