Pakistan witnessed a significant rise in violence-related fatalities during the third quarter of 2026, with more than 1,400 people killed in militant attacks and counter-terrorism operations, according to a report by the Centre for Research and Security Studies (CRSS).

The CRSS security report recorded at least 1,415 violence-linked deaths and 558 injuries between July and September 2026 across 385 incidents involving terrorist attacks and security operations. The figure represents an 83 percent increase compared with the previous quarter, reversing the declining trend recorded earlier in the year.

The southwestern province of Balochistan and northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) remained the main centres of violence, accounting together for 98 percent of all fatalities during the period. Balochistan recorded 829 deaths, representing nearly 59 percent of the national total, while KP reported 556 fatalities.

Balochistan experienced the sharpest deterioration, with fatalities increasing by 213 percent compared with the previous quarter, rising from 265 deaths in Q2 to 829 in Q3. The province also recorded the highest number of violent incidents during the period.

The increase affected civilians and security personnel as well. According to CRSS, civilian deaths rose by nearly 36 percent, while fatalities among security forces increased by more than 79 percent compared with the previous quarter.

Among militant groups claiming responsibility for attacks, the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) recorded the highest number of reported fatalities, while the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) was also identified among groups responsible for deadly attacks during the quarter.
