Panjshir World Council Reports 66 Alleged Human Rights Violations Over One Year

\nThe Panjshir World Council has reported 66 cases of alleged human rights violations in Afghanistan\u2019s Panjshir province over a one-year period, including targeted killings, summary trials and enforced disappearances.<\/p>\n
According to a report published by Hasht-e Subh on October 2, 2026, the council said it had documented the cases during its latest annual review. It also reported that around 340 residents had allegedly faced humiliation, threats, detention, torture or enforced disappearance in cases it said were apparently linked in part to ethnicity, language, identity and, in particular, their origin in Panjshir.<\/p>\n
The council further reported that more than 150 indigenous families had been forcibly displaced following what it described as security, economic, military or property-related pressure. It also alleged that some homes and lands had been vacated or seized and subsequently used by Taliban forces or individuals affiliated with them.<\/p>\n
The report said former security personnel and some former civilian and military officials had been detained over alleged links to the National Resistance Front. The council also reported cases of arbitrary detention, extortion and demands for money in exchange for release.<\/p>\n
The Panjshir World Council said its findings were based on investigations and information gathered from local sources, witnesses and other available material. It acknowledged, however, that security conditions, limited access and risks faced by victims and witnesses meant that some cases could not be fully verified independently. The council stressed that the figures do not represent all alleged human rights violations in the province.<\/p>\n
The allegations come against a broader background of documented reports of abuses in Panjshir. Amnesty International previously reported cases of torture, extrajudicial executions, hostage-taking, destruction of civilian homes and arbitrary detention by Taliban forces in the province, particularly in the context of their campaign against the National Resistance Front.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
