Grand Ayatollah Shirazi Highlights Causes of Contemporary Family, Social Problems

\nGrand Ayatollah Sayyid Sadiq al-Husseini al-Shirazi has highlighted aspects of the causes behind family and social problems in contemporary societies, calling on seminary and university researchers to study the social experience of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) and draw lessons from it in addressing challenges facing families today.<\/p>\n
During his remarks, Grand Ayatollah Shirazi urged scholars and researchers to examine historical and narrative sources concerning family life during the Prophet\u2019s approximately ten-year rule in Medina and other areas under Islamic governance. He particularly emphasized studying divorce cases during that period and comparing them with the situation in contemporary societies.<\/p>\n
He questioned how many divorces occurred within the Muslim community during the Prophet\u2019s rule and what factors contributed to the different nature of family life at that time compared with present-day societies.<\/p>\n
Grand Ayatollah Shirazi also referred to the Prophetic tradition: \u201cThe believer eats according to his family\u2019s desires, while the hypocrite makes his family eat according to his own desires.\u201d He explained that the tradition emphasizes the importance of considering family members\u2019 wishes in permissible matters and everyday life, rather than treating the head of the household\u2019s opinion as automatically decisive.<\/p>\n
He said this Prophetic approach challenges the notion that a man\u2019s opinion should always prevail simply because he is the head of the family, instead emphasizing understanding, consideration and partnership among family members.<\/p>\n
Grand Ayatollah Shirazi stressed the importance of conducting systematic research into this and other traditions concerning family life.
