Washington Hosts Exhibition of Islamic Art Masterpieces from Louvre

\nThe Smithsonian\u2019s National Museum of Asian Art in Washington is hosting the exhibition \u201cFrom the Louvre: Masterpieces of Islamic Art,\u201d featuring 26 exceptional works from the Islamic art collections of the Louvre Museum in Paris.<\/p>\n
According to Aran News, the exhibition marks the first time these selected pieces from the Louvre\u2019s Department of Islamic Arts have been loaned to another institution. The display will remain open until January 18.<\/p>\n
The artworks, chosen from a collection of more than 18,000 objects, highlight the artistic diversity of the Islamic world, with pieces from regions including Egypt, Syria, Iran, India, and beyond.<\/p>\n
Among the featured works is the renowned Baptist\u00e8re de Saint Louis, a Mamluk-era masterpiece from the 14th century, decorated with intricate engravings and precious materials. Other highlights include a Persian jade cup from the Timurid period, a gilded Syrian glass bowl depicting polo players, an Ottoman ceramic plate from Iznik, and an Indian dagger decorated with jade, rubies, emeralds, and gold.<\/p>\n
The exhibition also presents a bronze peacock from medieval C\u00f3rdoba, believed to have been part of an automated mechanism, as well as a portrait of Fath Ali Shah Qajar from early 20th-century Iran.<\/p>\n
