The Council of Shia Scholars in Pakistan has strongly condemned the terrorist attack that targeted a mosque inside a police compound in Kohat, northwest Pakistan, describing the killing of worshippers, civilians, and security personnel as a grave threat to the country\u2019s security and stability.<\/p>\n
The attack took place during Friday prayers when an explosives-laden vehicle targeted the mosque, followed by an armed assault and clashes between security forces and attackers inside the compound. Authorities reported that at least 31 people were killed and more than 100 others injured before the security operation at the site was concluded.<\/p>\n
In a statement, the council called for immediate medical assistance for all injured victims and expressed solidarity with the families of those killed and affected by the attack.<\/p>\n
The council also demanded a full investigation into the incident, the identification and arrest of those responsible, and their prosecution under the law. It warned that acts of terrorism aimed at spreading fear and insecurity threaten Pakistani society as a whole.<\/p>\n
Calling for unity among all religious and social groups, the council urged communities across Pakistan to strengthen cooperation against terrorism and extremism, stressing that confronting violence requires collective efforts from both the state and society.<\/p>\n
The statement came as Pakistani authorities announced the conclusion of a security operation lasting around 20 hours following the attack. Police said eight attackers were killed during the operation to clear the compound.<\/p>\n
