UN: More Than 112,000 Displaced in Yemen as Fighting Intensifies, Thousands Flee to Djibouti

\nMore than 112,000 people have been displaced inside Yemen and nearly 3,000 others have fled across the Red Sea to Djibouti as renewed fighting between Houthi forces and troops aligned with Yemen\u2019s internationally recognised government deepens the humanitarian crisis, according to United Nations agencies.<\/p>\n
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) warned that humanitarian resources in Yemen are rapidly running out, with many displaced families lacking essential assistance. Most of the recent internal displacement has occurred over the past two weeks, particularly in western coastal areas and the provinces of Taiz and Lahj.<\/p>\n
The displacement followed advances by the Houthis along Yemen\u2019s Red Sea coast, increasing tensions around the strategic Bab al-Mandeb Strait, a key maritime passage connecting the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.<\/p>\n
UN officials estimate that around 22 million Yemenis require urgent humanitarian support. More than 65,000 registered refugees and asylum seekers, mainly from Somalia and Ethiopia, are also facing increased risks.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the UN refugee agency reported that about 3,000 Yemenis have crossed by boat to Djibouti, with most recent arrivals including women, children and elderly people. The influx is placing additional pressure on Djibouti, which already hosts tens of thousands of refugees.<\/p>\n
UN officials warned that the humanitarian situation is deteriorating rapidly, particularly for vulnerable groups, including pregnant women and families who have lost their homes and livelihoods.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
