UN Chief Calls for Security Council Reform and Urges Action to Address Global Crises

\nUnited Nations Secretary-General Ant\u00f3nio Guterres has called for urgent reform of the UN Security Council, arguing that the current structure no longer reflects the realities of today\u2019s world and has been weakened by geopolitical divisions among major powers.<\/p>\n
Speaking about the council\u2019s ability to respond to international crises, Guterres said disagreements among powerful states, including cases where members are accused of violating international law, have contributed to what he described as institutional paralysis. He said reforming the Security Council should be a priority to better reflect changing global power relations.<\/p>\n
The UN chief also highlighted the need for diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions in the Middle East. He has called for addressing the Palestinian issue through a political solution and expressed concern over developments in the occupied West Bank, including settlement expansion and actions that could undermine prospects for peace.<\/p>\n
Guterres has also raised concerns about restrictions on navigation and maritime security in strategic waterways, including the Strait of Hormuz, amid regional tensions affecting trade and energy routes.<\/p>\n
