UN Security Council Warns of Growing Complexity and New Technologies in Terrorist Threats

\nThe United Nations Security Council has expressed concern over the increasing complexity, geographical spread and evolving nature of terrorist attacks worldwide, warning of rising casualties and new methods used by extremist groups.<\/p>\n
In a presidential statement issued after a Security Council meeting on terrorism marking the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks, the council highlighted the continued threat posed by foreign terrorist fighters and the expansion of terrorist activities.<\/p>\n
The council also raised concerns over the growing use of advanced technologies by terrorist groups, particularly the internet, information and communication platforms, and unmanned aerial systems.<\/p>\n
Members warned that drones and similar technologies are increasingly being misused to target critical infrastructure, public spaces and other vulnerable locations, as well as for illegal activities such as drug and arms trafficking.<\/p>\n
At the same time, the council acknowledged that technological developments can provide valuable tools for counterterrorism efforts and called for greater international cooperation to prevent the misuse of emerging technologies.<\/p>\n
