\nA pragmatic approach and efforts to contain extremist elements by Syria\u2019s transitional authorities and the commander-in-chief of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) have helped prevent a new round of deadly clashes in northeastern Syria.<\/p>\n
Under agreements reached between the two sides, the SDF\u2019s military structure has been formally dissolved, with its forces incorporated into the Syrian army through locally based brigades. Despite ongoing cultural and administrative challenges, the move has shifted efforts to resolve the dispute away from armed confrontation and toward negotiations and political dialogue.<\/p>\n
Recent developments in northern and eastern Syria indicate a significant shift from military confrontation to political and administrative solutions. Following the fall of the previous government in Damascus and the advance of armed groups, the risk of a wider conflict involving local factions, Arab communities and Kurdish forces had increased considerably.<\/p>\n
However, the willingness of both sides to accept military limitations and restrain hardline commanders helped prevent a repetition of destabilizing scenarios and further foreign military intervention.<\/p>\n
According to the U.S. publication New Lines, the integration of Kurdish forces into Syria\u2019s Defense Ministry has entered its final stage following the complete dissolution of the SDF. Its former commander has reportedly been appointed as a presidential adviser, while security responsibilities in Hasakah, Qamishli and Kobani have been transferred to local Kurdish brigades operating under the supervision of the central government.<\/p>\n
The agreement effectively ends the self-administration project known as \u201cRojava,\u201d while providing for the transfer of border crossings and oil resources to the Syrian government in return for guarantees concerning Kurdish citizenship and cultural rights.<\/p>\n
According to analysis published by Middle East News, reaching the agreement was a complex process marked by numerous setbacks and fluctuations. Following regional clashes in Manbij and Tal Rifaat, as well as military setbacks and sectarian tensions in Sweida, both sides concluded that continued reliance on military force would carry significant costs.<\/p>\n
At the same time, declining international support for independent local structures and changes in the region\u2019s political balance created conditions for greater acceptance of national sovereignty.<\/p>\n
Several issues remain unresolved, including the official status of Kurdish-language education, the future of women\u2019s military units and objections by Arab tribes to certain checkpoints.
