The All India Muslim Personal Law Board Launches National Campaign to Protect Constitution and Religious Freedom<\/p>\n
The All India Muslim Personal Law Board has announced the launch of a nationwide mass movement under the title “Movement for the Protection of the Constitution and Sharia.” This initiative aims to defend constitutional rights and religious freedoms while promoting the rule of law amidst growing concerns about the status of Muslims and minorities in the country. <\/p>\n
The board, which includes representatives from various Islamic sects in India, clarified that the campaign will employ constitutional and peaceful means and will not be limited to Muslim issues alone. Instead, it will strive to defend the democratic values, fundamental rights, and freedoms guaranteed by the constitution for all citizens.<\/p>\n
The board pointed out that the movement is being launched in response to what it describes as escalating challenges facing Muslims and vulnerable, marginalized groups. These challenges include incidents of violence, hate speech, demolition of homes, and disputes related to mosques, cemeteries, religious schools, and waqf properties, as well as issues associated with arrests, religious freedoms, and educational practices.<\/p>\n
The board stressed the importance of preserving the Muslim Personal Law and protecting places of worship and religious properties, alongside ensuring equality in the enforcement of the law and preventing any measures that might infringe on the constitutional rights of minorities.<\/p>\n
The campaign includes the preparation of a “white paper” documenting cases that the board considers discriminatory or violative of constitutional and human rights. The findings will be presented to the media, human rights organizations, elected representatives, and relevant parties.<\/p>\n
Furthermore, the board plans to issue a legal guide to educate citizens about their rights and the legal recourses available to them in matters pertaining to demolitions, protection of mosques, religious schools, cemeteries, and waqf properties. In addition, a document will be prepared addressing the rule of law and the rights of victims of violence, as well as the responsibilities of the concerned authorities.<\/p>\n
The movement’s plan also encompasses the preparation of a charter of demands focusing on the protection of constitutional rights, religious freedom, combating hate crimes, safeguarding religious properties, and ensuring equality before the law. This charter will be presented to official entities in the country.<\/p>\n
The campaign is set to be accompanied by media and digital activities and awareness events, with a subsequent phase involving the organization of a national gathering in the capital with participation from representatives of various communities, religions, and social institutions.<\/p>\n
The board affirmed that confronting hatred, sectarianism, and violence, along with promoting peace, brotherhood, dialogue, and mutual respect, represent primary goals of the movement.
