UNICEF Warns of Child Fatalities and Damage to Essential Services in the Gaza Strip<\/p>\n
The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has warned of the increasing risks faced by children in the Gaza Strip, following the deaths of at least four children over the past five days, amidst damage to essential facilities and supplies relied upon by residents. <\/p>\n
On Friday, August 28, the organization reported that two children, aged two and four years, were killed in separate bombings, while a 10-year-old girl was killed by ground fire while inside her tent. A 16-year-old boy died from injuries sustained in a previous bombing.<\/p>\n
UNICEF pointed out that the risks extend beyond the casualties, as a storage facility under its management containing nutritional supplies was destroyed due to bombing in its vicinity. Severe damage was also inflicted on a water well and a desalination plant supported by the organization in Deir al-Balah.<\/p>\n
The damage resulted in the disruption of a clean water source relied upon by more than four thousand people, including about two thousand children, exacerbating the humanitarian pressures on families amid the damage to vital services and infrastructure.<\/p>\n
UNICEF stressed that children who survive the attacks are also facing the consequences of the destruction of essential services and supplies crucial for their survival and health.<\/p>\n
The organization renewed its call for the protection of children and civilian infrastructure, the adherence to international humanitarian law, and ensuring the immediate, safe, and unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid to the affected population in the Gaza Strip.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
