A Human Rights Organization Monitors Developments Related to Citizenship Revocation in Bahrain<\/p>\n
The organization “Americans for Democracy & Human Rights in Bahrain” has released a new report addressing the procedures for revoking citizenship in Bahrain and their legal and social implications for the individuals affected and their families.<\/p>\n
According to the report, in recent years, Bahrain has witnessed multiple cases of citizenship revocation, noting that the number of individuals affected by these measures reached approximately 990 by the year 2019, with some cases linked to accusations related to terrorism and rebellion.<\/p>\n
The organization further noted that subsequent years saw the implementation of similar procedures in cases involving accusations related to activities on social media or praise for attacks, calling for ensuring clarity in the legal standards and procedures followed in such cases.<\/p>\n
The report highlighted one case where citizenship was revoked from 69 citizens along with members of their families, while the organization raised questions regarding the trial procedures and the possibility of contesting or appealing the issued decisions.<\/p>\n
The report also addressed the social impacts stemming from the loss of citizenship, particularly concerning access to official documents, education, healthcare, and housing, emphasizing the importance of considering the circumstances of the affected families and children.<\/p>\n
