Random Gunfire Claims the Lives of Children in Syria: 37 Dead, 28 Injured Since the Beginning of the Year<\/p>\n
The plight of children in Syria persists due to the proliferation of weapons and ammunition in residential areas, leading to numerous casualties from stray bullets and accidental incidents. This phenomenon has become a direct threat to the lives of civilians, especially children.<\/p>\n
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights revealed on Monday, August 24, that 37 children have been killed and 28 others injured since the beginning of the current year due to stray bullets and incidents related to weapons and bombs prevalent among the population.<\/p>\n
The Observatory indicated that in the regions under the control of the Syrian Interim Government, 30 children were killed, and 24 others were injured. In other areas, seven children were killed, and four were injured in similar incidents.<\/p>\n
It pointed out that the proliferation of weapons and ammunition in civilian environments has posed a danger to children, even away from conflict zones. Random gunfire during celebrations or unsafe handling of weapons and bombs can turn into deadly incidents within moments.<\/p>\n
The Observatory warned that children are among the most vulnerable groups to the risks posed by the spread of weapons, as they are unable to gauge the dangers of weapons and ammunition that may fall into their hands. They are also exposed to stray bullets in neighborhoods, villages, and residential areas.<\/p>\n
The organization stressed that the recorded number of victims reflects an urgent need to impose stricter measures to curb the spread and use of weapons in residential areas, ensure the security of weapons and ammunition to prevent their access to children, and enhance measures to protect civilians.<\/p>\n
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights renewed its call for deterrent measures against those who fire randomly and to prevent the use of weapons during events and celebrations. It also called for intensified awareness campaigns about the dangers of such practices.<\/p>\n
These warnings come amid ongoing incidents of gunfire at social events and celebrations, which have turned many occasions into tragedies due to fatalities and injuries, amid demands for serious measures to limit the spread of weapons and protect children and civilians from its repercussions.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
