Sudanese Doctors Warn of Exacerbating Humanitarian Crisis Following New Displacement Wave to Blue Nile<\/p>\n
The Sudanese Doctors Network has warned of the worsening humanitarian and health conditions in the Blue Nile State following the displacement of more than five thousand people from the Qeissan area to the city of Damazin due to the deteriorating security situation and attacks by the Rapid Support Forces. This comes amidst a severe shortage of basic necessities and continued heavy rainfall. <\/p>\n
In a statement, the network indicated that the displaced individuals are facing challenging humanitarian conditions, with a lack of food, medicine, drinking water, and shelter materials. It warned that the persistence of these conditions poses a particular threat to children, women, and the elderly.<\/p>\n
The statement also noted that the heavy rainfall in the Blue Nile State exacerbates the health and environmental risks faced by the displaced people, given the limited resources and capacities available to respond to the increasing number of those in need.<\/p>\n
The network called on international, humanitarian, local organizations, and relevant authorities to take urgent action to provide food, drinking water, medicine, medical supplies, and shelter materials. It also emphasized the need to ensure health care and protection for the displaced and to facilitate the unhindered delivery of aid to those affected.<\/p>\n
The International Organization for Migration reported that 5,355 individuals, representing 1,071 families, were displaced from the Qeissan area between August 12 and 15 due to the deteriorating security situation.<\/p>\n
This new wave of displacement comes amidst ongoing conflict between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces since April 2023, which has resulted in the deaths of tens of thousands and the displacement of millions, plunging the country into one of the world’s most severe humanitarian and economic crises.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
