The World Health Organization: Ebola Outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo Remains Uncontrolled<\/p>\n
The World Health Organization (WHO) has announced that the Ebola virus outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo is still far from being controlled, as the disease continues to spread at a faster pace than the measures being implemented to contain it, with infections expanding into new areas.<\/p>\n
Thierry Balde, the WHO coordinator, stated that the organization is “still far from controlling the epidemic in the Democratic Republic of Congo,” noting that the disease has already reached the sixth province in the country, reflecting the ongoing expansion of the outbreak.<\/p>\n
Balde added that the organization hopes to be able to control the epidemic within three months, indicating that achieving this remains possible if the necessary resources and capabilities are provided to implement control and health response measures.<\/p>\n
In the same context, the National Institute of Public Health in the Democratic Republic of Congo reported that the current outbreak has become the deadliest in the country’s history, noting 2,325 deaths and the diagnosis of 4,945 individuals infected with the virus.<\/p>\n
The World Health Organization had previously considered, on May 17, that the situation related to the Ebola fever outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda represented an emergency with potential risks for other countries.<\/p>\n
Health authorities and international organizations are facing increasing challenges in containing the spread of the virus, amidst the need to enhance resources, preventive measures, and medical responses to reduce infections and deaths, and to prevent the disease from spreading to other areas and countries.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
