A new earthquake strikes Indonesia, thousands spend nights outdoors<\/p>\n
An earthquake measuring 5.9 on the Richter scale struck the island of Flores in Indonesia on Monday, at a time when thousands of residents are still spending their nights outdoors following the devastating earthquake that hit the region last Saturday.<\/p>\n
The German Research Centre for Geosciences reported that the new earthquake occurred at a depth of 10 kilometers, with no immediate reports of casualties or material damage resulting from the tremor.<\/p>\n
This new quake follows a powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 7.7 that struck off the northern coast of Flores Island last Saturday, which resulted in the death of 53 people and injuries to more than 100 others, as well as the collapse of dozens of buildings and damage to hundreds of homes and public facilities.<\/p>\n
According to local media, thousands of those affected are still awaiting humanitarian aid, with some taking refuge in schools, police stations, and government buildings, while others have been forced to sleep outdoors.<\/p>\n
The Indonesian National Disaster Management Agency reported that the number of people unable to return to their homes rose to approximately 12,800 by Monday morning, distributed across several towns on the island of Flores.<\/p>\n
