\nThousands of Lebanese families returning to Beirut\u2019s southern suburbs are facing severe housing and economic challenges after widespread destruction caused by recent conflict, with soaring rents and slow reconstruction adding to their hardships.<\/p>\n
The destruction of residential buildings in the area has sharply reduced available housing, causing rental prices to rise several times higher. Some homes that previously rented for $300 to $400 per month are now reportedly priced between $700 and $1,000, placing heavy pressure on families who lost homes, jobs and sources of income during the fighting.<\/p>\n
According to reports by Asharq Al-Awsat and Al Jazeera, many displaced families have been forced to seek temporary shelter in tents, hotels or with relatives due to the shortage of affordable housing and limited reconstruction progress.<\/p>\n
Residents have criticised what they describe as insufficient government support in organising assistance for displaced people and restoring essential services such as electricity, water and municipal infrastructure.<\/p>\n
Lebanon\u2019s Ministry of Health has reported that the military escalation since March 2 has resulted in more than 4,333 deaths, over 12,250 injuries and the displacement of more than one million people.<\/p>\n
Despite the difficult conditions, many residents of Beirut\u2019s southern suburbs remain determined to return and rebuild their lives in their communities.
