Over 70 Mosque Attacks Reported in England Over 12 Months, Raising Concerns Over Anti-Muslim Hate

\nMore than 70 attacks targeting mosques across England have been recorded over the past year, according to new data from the British Muslims Trust (BTM), highlighting growing concerns over Islamophobic incidents and the security of Muslim places of worship.<\/p>\n
Citing BTM figures, Novara Media reported that the number of recorded attacks is equivalent to approximately one incident every five days. The incidents included physical assaults, threats and intimidation, vandalism, arson attempts, hate messages, and online abuse.<\/p>\n
London, Greater Manchester, and the West Midlands were identified as among the areas most affected by attacks. Reported cases include an arson attack on a mosque in Peacehaven, East Sussex, in October 2025, and an incident in Sheffield in July 2025 in which an individual released rats outside a mosque in an apparent attempt to intimidate worshippers.<\/p>\n
In response to rising concerns, the UK Home Office announced a security funding package of up to \u00a340 million in February under a mosque protection program. The funding is intended to support security measures such as guards, surveillance cameras, alarm systems, and other protective equipment for mosques, Muslim schools, and community centers.<\/p>\n
However, BTM has criticized the process for accessing the funds, saying some mosques face difficulties obtaining support and may be required to demonstrate that they have already experienced an attack before receiving assistance. The organization said some applications have reportedly taken up to 18 months to process, while others have been rejected without clear explanations.<\/p>\n
BTM Executive Director Aqeela Ahmed called for faster action, arguing that mosques remain vulnerable because they are Muslim places of worship and should be able to strengthen security measures before attacks occur.<\/p>\n
A UK Home Office spokesperson said authorities were working to process applications as quickly as possible.<\/p>\n
The report comes amid continued debate in Britain over measures to combat anti-Muslim hatred and protect religious communities.
