Rights Groups Warn of Rising Cases of Missing Women and Girls in Syria

\nFifty human rights and civil society organizations have expressed serious concern over reports of abductions and disappearances involving women and girls in various parts of Syria, calling for independent investigations into the cases.<\/p>\n
In a joint statement, the organizations said the reports were based on documentation collected by United Nations bodies, as well as Syrian and international rights groups, since the beginning of 2025. They warned that the scale and seriousness of the allegations require investigations rather than being treated as isolated family disputes or individual incidents.<\/p>\n
The groups stressed that cases of disappearance should not be classified as voluntary departures, family conflicts, or false claims without independent and secure interviews with victims and evidence that can be examined through legal procedures. They added that investigations must take into account the possibility that victims may have faced coercion, threats, or fear of retaliation.<\/p>\n
