Volunteer Mawakib Begin Serving Arbaeen Pilgrims Along Routes to Karbala

\nVolunteer service groups, known as Mawakib, have begun providing food, accommodation, medical assistance and other services to pilgrims participating in the annual Arbaeen pilgrimage walk to Karbala, as millions of visitors prepare to gather for the commemoration of Imam Hussein\u2019s peace be upon him martyrdom.<\/p>\n
Volunteer service groups have started operations along the Arbaeen pilgrimage routes as the annual walk to the holy city of Karbala gets underway. The Mawakib are providing free services to pilgrims, including meals, drinking water, accommodation, medical support and guidance throughout the journey.<\/p>\n
The Arbaeen pilgrimage walk has begun in several Iraqi provinces, with pilgrims traveling on foot from different cities toward the shrine of Imam Hussein peace be upon him in Karbala. Pilgrims from countries including Kuwait, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iran, Lebanon and others have also arrived in Iraq to participate, with more international visitors expected in the coming days.<\/p>\n
Hundreds of Mawakib have been established along major pilgrimage routes leading to Karbala, while the city itself, particularly its historic central areas, has witnessed the arrival of service groups from various Iraqi provinces preparing to assist visitors.<\/p>\n
Providing hospitality to pilgrims is a long-standing tradition among Iraqi communities. Many volunteers dedicate their time, resources and personal donations to welcome Arbaeen pilgrims, offering food, rest areas and other essential services around the clock.<\/p>\n
The Mawakib are established by religious organizations, community groups and individuals, operating independently through public participation rather than government management. Their presence has become one of the defining features of the Arbaeen pilgrimage, reflecting values of generosity, solidarity and voluntary service.<\/p>\n
Alongside these community efforts, Iraqi authorities continue to implement security and administrative measures to facilitate the movement of pilgrims, including securing routes, supporting border procedures and coordinating services in Karbala and Najaf.<\/p>\n
