\nMuslim mosques in France have opened their doors to all citizens, providing safe and cool spaces for people affected by the severe heatwave sweeping the country.<\/p>\n
The initiative began in the eastern Paris suburb of Montreuil, where mosques designated halls to receive visitors throughout the day. Cold drinking water and seating areas were made available as official warnings continued over the risks posed by extreme temperatures across large parts of France.<\/p>\n
Hassan Harmouz, head of the Montreuil Muslim Council, said the initiative was launched after mosque officials noticed people suffering in the streets because of the heat. He said the mosque remained open throughout the heatwave to welcome everyone without discrimination, offering cooler indoor spaces supported by ventilation systems.<\/p>\n
He added that dates, cold water, and areas for rest or prayer were also provided. Harmouz stressed that the initiative was not limited to Muslims but was intended for anyone in need, reflecting humanitarian values and social solidarity.<\/p>\n
Ibrahim Belhaj, Friday prayer imam at Al-Islah Mosque, said the initiative aimed to ease the impact of the heatwave on residents, especially the elderly and people in public areas. He said the role of mosques is not limited to religious worship but also includes serving society during crises.<\/p>\n
