UN Report Warns of Worsening Hunger in 13 Countries, Including Syria

\nA joint report issued by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the World Food Programme (WFP) has warned of deteriorating food security conditions in several countries, placing Syria among 13 nations considered major hunger hotspots in the coming months.<\/p>\n
The report, released on June 17, said millions of people in these countries are expected to face worsening levels of acute food insecurity between June and November 2026, driven by ongoing armed conflicts, economic crises, and the effects of climate change.<\/p>\n
It noted that conflict and violence remain the main drivers of food crises in 12 of the 13 countries listed, including Syria, where severe economic and humanitarian conditions continue to affect people\u2019s ability to access food and basic necessities.<\/p>\n
The report classified Sudan, South Sudan, Yemen, and Palestine among the countries most exposed to dangerous levels of hunger. It also listed Syria, Somalia, Nigeria, Chad, Burkina Faso, Mali, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Myanmar, and Haiti as countries of serious concern.<\/p>\n
The UN agencies warned that the global humanitarian response is facing growing challenges due to a sharp decline in humanitarian aid funding.
