\nA new study in Malm\u00f6, Sweden, has warned of growing Islamophobia and anti-Muslim discrimination affecting Muslims\u2019 daily lives, employment opportunities and sense of belonging.<\/p>\n
According to Alkompis, the research was conducted by Jonas Alwall, a professor of sociology of religion, and Ella Klausen, a graduate in urban studies. It forms part of Malm\u00f6\u2019s 2026\u20132029 program to combat Islamophobia and anti-Muslim racism.<\/p>\n
The study found that Muslims in Malm\u00f6 face discrimination in schools, workplaces and public spaces, including offensive remarks, hostile looks, unequal treatment and exclusion. Researchers said Muslim names, backgrounds or perceived Islamic identity can also negatively affect access to jobs.<\/p>\n
Interviews with Muslim residents showed concern that Sweden\u2019s political and media climate has become harsher toward Muslims in recent years. The study also noted that people perceived as Muslim may face discrimination even if they do not identify as such.<\/p>\n
Malm\u00f6 Deputy Mayor Emani Lubani said Islamophobia appears in employment, healthcare and everyday life, adding that hijab-wearing women are especially vulnerable to verbal abuse and discriminatory behavior.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
