\nSecurity tensions have been reported in several areas of the Syrian capital, Damascus, after protests targeted neighborhoods where some residents were accused of links to the former Assad regime.<\/p>\n
According to local media reports, dozens of people gathered near the entrances of the Mezzeh 86 area, chanting slogans against residents they accused of benefiting from land and property during the years of the former government. The unrest reportedly included vandalism against several shops and private properties.<\/p>\n
The reports said posters and leaflets were circulated in parts of the area calling on some residents to leave, while sectarian and inflammatory slogans raised concerns among local families about a wider escalation.<\/p>\n
Public security forces intervened to contain the unrest, firing shots into the air to disperse crowds and prevent clashes. Authorities also urged residents to remain inside their homes for their safety and later sent additional security reinforcements to the area.<\/p>\n
Initial local reports indicated that several people were injured and that civilian properties and commercial shops suffered material damage. Security forces have reportedly opened investigations to identify those responsible for vandalism and disorder.<\/p>\n
In a related measure, security forces closed the entrances to the Ash al-Warwar neighborhood as a precaution to prevent new gatherings from reaching the area. Tight security measures were also reported in several other districts of Damascus.<\/p>\n
Separately, local reports from Homs province said dozens of families had left the city of Palmyra amid continuing security concerns and fears of possible attacks linked to accusations of affiliation with the former regime.<\/p>\n
