Shia Communities Worldwide Prepare for Muharram and Ashura Mourning Season

\nReligious authorities, Hussainiyas and Shia centers in Iraq, Lebanon, Kuwait, Australia and Madagascar have stepped up preparations for Muharram 1448 AH, calling for stronger commitment to Husseini rituals and organized mourning programmes.<\/p>\n
Shia religious authorities and community institutions across several countries have begun preparations for the month of Muharram and the commemoration of Ashura, the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein, peace be upon him, his family and his companions in Karbala.<\/p>\n
In Najaf, Grand Ayatollah Sheikh Bashir Najafi urged believers to increase their efforts in reviving the memory of Ashura and to dedicate themselves to holding Husseini rituals through all lawful means. In a statement published by his office, he stressed the importance of using Muharram to reinforce the values embodied by the uprising of Imam Hussein, peace be upon him.<\/p>\n
Grand Ayatollah Najafi also highlighted the responsibility of preachers and speakers, saying their conduct and ethical approach play an important role in shaping society and strengthening religious awareness. He called for presenting the teachings of the Ahlulbayt, peace be upon them, in a way that reflects the depth and beauty of their message.<\/p>\n
In Melbourne, Australia, the Bayt al-Hussein Hussainiya, affiliated with the Shirazi religious authority, held a ceremony to welcome Muharram 1448 AH. The programme included Quranic teaching and recitation, Ziyarat Ashura, an English lecture by Sheikh Mohammad al-Hourani, and a mourning gathering addressed by Sayyid Abdul Razzaq al-Bahrani.<\/p>\n
In Beirut, the office of Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Sadiq al-Husseini al-Shirazi, may his shadow endure, hosted an expanded meeting of the Union of Hussainiyas, processions and Husseini service bodies in Lebanon. Participants discussed organizational and service preparations for Muharram, while Sheikh Jalal Maash and Sayyid Hussein al-Shaer emphasized the need to preserve Husseini identity and rituals despite current challenges.<\/p>\n
In the holy city of Kadhimiya, the Great Prophet procession, affiliated with the Shirazi religious authority, began setting up mourning tents and service arrangements for Muharram gatherings.<\/p>\n
