According to local sources cited by 8am Daily, Taliban officials in several public schools in Khost province have ordered teachers to hand over their smartphones for destruction. The sources said the move was presented as \u201cobedience to Mullah Hibatullah,\u201d the Taliban\u2019s supreme leader.<\/p>\n
The report said Taliban officials first questioned teachers about smartphone ownership and prepared lists of those who possessed such devices. Teachers were then warned to bring their phones to be broken or surrender them to Taliban personnel. Those refusing the order reportedly faced serious warnings.<\/p>\n
The account comes amid wider concern over Taliban controls on information, education and public life. Since returning to power in 2021, the Taliban has imposed sweeping restrictions on women and girls, including bans on secondary and university education for females and severe limits on employment and movement.<\/p>\n
