\nJapan is turning to advanced artificial intelligence to strengthen cybersecurity across its financial sector, as concerns grow over AI-enabled cyberattacks.<\/p>\n
Japanese Finance Minister Satsuki Katayama said some Japanese financial institutions have been given access to OpenAI\u2019s GPT-5.5 model to help improve their ability to detect and respond to cyber threats.<\/p>\n
The announcement came after Katayama met OpenAI Chief Strategy Officer Jason Kwon in Tokyo. Japanese officials described the move as an important step in protecting the country\u2019s financial infrastructure from increasingly sophisticated attacks.<\/p>\n
Nikkei reported that Japan\u2019s three major banks \u2014 MUFG Bank, Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corp., and Mizuho Bank \u2014 are expected to be among the institutions using the model.<\/p>\n
OpenAI has said its Trusted Access for Cyber program is designed to provide enhanced cyber capabilities to verified defenders while restricting uses that could enable real-world harm.<\/p>\n
