The warning was issued alongside a travel advisory and legal rights guide for reporters. CPJ cited recent cases in the United States involving immigration actions, arrests, and prosecutions against journalists covering protests, including pro-Palestinian demonstrations and anti-government rallies.<\/p>\n
The press freedom group urged international journalists traveling to the US to assess personal risks, prepare emergency contacts, and establish regular check-in procedures. It also warned domestic reporters to be aware of possible legal challenges while covering protests or immigration-related events.<\/p>\n
CPJ said journalists in Mexico could face threats or violence when reporting on corruption, human rights, or issues involving marginalized communities. It also noted rare cases of journalists being arrested while covering protests in Canada.<\/p>\n
