According to police, the attack occurred on Saturday when a car bomb, weighing between 1,200 and 1,500 kg, was driven into the police checkpoint before detonating, completely destroying the building and turning it into rubble, with debris and damaged vehicles scattered across the area.<\/p>\n
An official confirmed that armed militants stormed the site after the explosion and opened fire on the remaining officers. A subsequent ambush targeted the additional forces that had arrived to provide support, resulting in further casualties among them.<\/p>\n
The police confirmed that the bodies of 21 personnel were recovered from the site, while three survivors were found and transported to the hospital for treatment. An emergency was declared in medical facilities in the nearby city of Bannu.<\/p>\n
Security sources indicated that drones were used by the attackers during the operation, reflecting an escalation in the tactics employed by militant groups in the region.<\/p>\n
The militant group known as the “Mujahedeen Union” claimed responsibility for the attack, raising concerns that the escalation could lead to renewed security tensions along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.<\/p>\n
