\nMillions of children across the Sahel region are facing a worsening humanitarian crisis driven by violence, displacement, and climate-related shocks, according to a warning from UNICEF.<\/p>\n
The agency reported that nearly 7.5 million children in the central Sahel\u2014including Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger\u2014are in urgent need of humanitarian assistance, as insecurity and socio-economic pressures intensify across the region.<\/p>\n
UNICEF officials highlighted that ongoing violence and armed conflict have displaced more than 3.6 million people, severely disrupting access to education, healthcare, and basic services. The situation has left children particularly vulnerable, with the United Nations documenting over 1,500 grave violations, including killings, abductions, and recruitment by armed groups.<\/p>\n
Education has also been heavily affected, with more than 8,400 schools rendered inaccessible in 2025, increasing risks of illness, psychological distress, and long-term developmental harm.<\/p>\n
Despite these challenges, UNICEF noted signs of resilience among affected communities, including efforts to reopen markets and maintain social support networks. However, the agency warned that resilience should not mask the severity of the crisis.<\/p>\n
