Makkah Museum showcases rare 17th, 19th-century Qur\u2019an manuscripts as part of expanding heritage exhibition

\nThe Holy Qur\u2019an Museum in Makkah\u2019s Hira Cultural District is currently displaying rare historical manuscripts and large-scale artistic reproductions of the Qur\u2019an, highlighting the evolution of Islamic calligraphy across centuries.<\/p>\n
Among the featured exhibits is a monumental mosaic panel spanning 76.67 square metres, based on a 1656 manuscript by Ottoman-era calligrapher Mustafa Dhul-Fiqar. The artwork reproduces Surah Al-Fatiha in full and the opening verses of Surah Al-Baqarah, assembled from more than one million porcelain mosaic pieces. The original manuscript is preserved at the King Abdulaziz Complex for Endowment Libraries in Madinah.<\/p>\n
The museum also presents a rare 19th-century Qur\u2019an manuscript written in India, notable for its octagonal design and compact format intended for portability. According to the Saudi Press Agency, the manuscript reflects a combination of artistic precision and practical design, illustrating regional variations in Qur\u2019anic production traditions.<\/p>\n
Officials said the exhibitions aim to highlight the historical development of Qur\u2019anic calligraphy and manuscript arts, while strengthening the cultural and educational role of the museum within the Hira Cultural District.<\/p>\n
