IOM: 28,000 Displaced in Sudan\u2019s Blue Nile State Amid Escalating Clashes

\nThe International Organization for Migration (IOM) announced on Tuesday that more than 28,000 people have been displaced in Blue Nile State in southeastern Sudan over roughly 80 days, due to escalating fighting between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).<\/p>\n
In a statement, the organization said that 28,020 individuals were displaced from multiple locations across the state between January 11 and April 2. The displacement originated from areas including the town of Bau and the cities of Kurmak and Qeisan, following intensified clashes.<\/p>\n
According to the IOM, the displaced residents have moved to at least six locations within Blue Nile State, including Ad-Damazin, Al-Tadamon, and Wad Al-Mahi.<\/p>\n
The agency added that many of the newly displaced are sheltering in informal gathering sites, while others have been accommodated in schools, public buildings, or by host communities.<\/p>\n
Earlier, the IOM reported that 10,310 people were displaced from Kurmak between February 14 and March 24 due to the same wave of violence.<\/p>\n
Separately, the Sudan Doctors Network stated on March 25 that RSF forces displaced around 3,000 people in Kurmak and destroyed a hospital after entering the city.<\/p>\n
In recent weeks, Blue Nile State has witnessed intensified fighting involving the Sudanese army, the RSF, and factions of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North aligned with the paramilitary forces. The clashes have forced thousands to flee across multiple areas of the state.<\/p>\n
Sudan has been engulfed in conflict since April 2023, when fighting broke out between the army and the RSF over disputes regarding integration of the paramilitary group into the military. The war has since triggered one of the world\u2019s worst humanitarian crises, with tens of thousands killed and around 13 million people displaced nationwide.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
