In comments reported this week, ICRC President Mirjana Spoljaric cautioned that recent developments, particularly in active conflict zones, risk reaching a \u201cpoint of no return\u201d if vital services such as energy, water, and health\u2011care systems continue to be targeted. She said that such attacks \u2014 which increasingly affect civilian access to fuel, electricity, potable water, and medical care \u2014 amount to a \u201cwar on civilians\u201d and can have widespread, long\u2011lasting impacts beyond immediate battlefields.<\/p>\n
Spoljaric also expressed deep concern about the potential damage to sensitive installations, including nuclear facilities, noting that harm to these sites would have \u201cirreversible consequences\u201d and is a particular worry given their protected status under international humanitarian law.<\/p>\n
