Strike on Sudan hospital leaves at least 64 dead, wounds 89 more, WHO reports

\nA strike on a healthcare facility in East Darfur, Sudan, has killed at least 64 people and wounded 89 others, The Guardian reported citing the World Health Organization (WHO). Victims included children and medical personnel, and the attack affected hospital staff, patients, supplies, and storage.<\/p>\n
Local rights groups reported that an army drone strike hit the El-Daein teaching hospital, located in the Rapid Support Forces-controlled state capital. WHO confirmed the attack but does not attribute responsibility.<\/p>\n
The strike is part of ongoing drone attacks in Sudan\u2019s war, which have targeted hospitals and other populated areas. This year, a total of 12 attacks on health care in Sudan have been recorded, causing 178 deaths and 237 injuries.<\/p>\n
Near-daily drone strikes are now a hallmark of Sudan\u2019s brutal war, killing dozens at a time, mostly in the southern Kordofan region.<\/p>\n
The UN human rights chief, Volker T\u00fcrk, this month said he was \u201cappalled\u201d after more than 200 civilians were reported killed by drone attacks within an eight-day period.<\/p>\n
Since the war began, the UN has recorded over 1,800 deaths in attacks on healthcare facilities, including 173 health workers.
