Survey Finds High Levels of Discrimination Against Black People, Muslims in Germany

\nA recent study by Germany\u2019s National Observatory for Discrimination and Racism has revealed that significant portions of Black and Muslim residents experience discrimination on a monthly basis.<\/p>\n
The report, presented at a press conference in Berlin on Thursday, found that approximately 25 percent of Black people and 17 percent of Muslims in Germany encounter overt discriminatory acts at least once per month. The study surveyed nearly 8,000 participants between October 2025 and January 2026 to assess the prevalence of racism and its impact on public trust in state institutions.<\/p>\n
Other groups also reported notable levels of discrimination: 16 percent of respondents from Asian backgrounds, 14 percent from Eastern European backgrounds, and 11 percent of those with a migration background experienced overt discrimination monthly. Over the past year, 33 percent of Muslims, 32 percent of Black people, and 30 percent of people with a migration background reported facing discrimination at least once.<\/p>\n
The observatory noted that indirect discrimination, including mistreatment, being ignored, or not being taken seriously, was even more widespread: 63 percent of Black people, 52 percent of Muslims, 47 percent of Asian people, and 42 percent of those with a migration background reported experiencing such forms of bias.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
