According to NY Times, Mayor Mamdani responded to recent comments from Republican politicians, including Senator Tommy Tuberville of Alabama and Representative Brandon Gill of Texas, as well as Queens City Council member Vickie Paladino, which he described as dehumanizing and threatening to Muslim New Yorkers. He referenced violent incidents, including a 12-year-old girl in Brooklyn hospitalized after being attacked while wearing a hijab.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe hardship extends beyond this month, simply by belonging to our faith in this city that is our home,\u201d Mamdani said, emphasizing that Muslims have long been part of New York while facing dehumanization from those in positions of power.<\/p>\n
The mayor also addressed a recent far-right demonstration outside Gracie Mansion, where an attempted bombing inspired by ISIS led to two arrests. Mamdani condemned the act as \u201cheinous terrorism.\u201d<\/p>\n
