According to WHO estimates, around 34\u202fmillion children worldwide live with disabling hearing loss, and up to 60\u202fper cent of these cases are preventable through public health measures such as vaccination, timely treatment of ear infections, and early audiological care. Early detection and intervention are crucial as unaddressed hearing impairment can impede speech, language and cognitive development, leading to poorer educational outcomes and long\u2011term social challenges.<\/p>\n
The WHO campaign stresses that ear and hearing care should be integrated into existing child health programmes, school health services and community outreach, ensuring that ear conditions are identified and managed early. It also promotes awareness among teachers, caregivers and health professionals about the importance of recognizing and responding to hearing problems in children before they affect learning and social interaction.<\/p>\n
