\nA total of 582 people were killed across various parts of Syria in February 2026, including 211 civilians, according to a monthly toll released by the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR).<\/p>\n
The Britain-based monitoring group said the civilian casualties included 169 men and young males, 15 women, and 29 children. Causes of death varied, ranging from clashes in areas under Syrian government control and incidents of random gunfire to shelling and shootings attributed to government forces. The report also documented killings and executions under differing circumstances, as well as deaths in unclear conditions.<\/p>\n
According to SOHR, a number of civilians were killed by unexploded ordnance, landmines, and other remnants of war in territories controlled by both government forces and the Syrian Democratic Forces. The toll also included individuals whose bodies were discovered in mass graves, as well as former personnel associated with the previous government.<\/p>\n
Among non-civilian casualties, the Observatory recorded 371 deaths. These included three members of the so-called Islamic State group, 188 fighters affiliated with the Syrian transitional government forces, 178 members of the Syrian Democratic Forces and allied formations, and two fighters from Druze armed factions.<\/p>\n
While the report noted a relative decrease in large-scale military operations compared to earlier periods of the conflict, it emphasized that violence persists due to armed clashes, security instability, and the continued presence of explosive remnants of war.<\/p>\n
The Observatory stated that ceasefires and political initiatives have yet to result in sustainable peace and called on international actors to intensify efforts toward a comprehensive political settlement accompanied by accountability mechanisms.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
