UN Rights Office Reports Ongoing Abuses Against Civilians in Sudan

The UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) has said Darfur remains its primary focus in Sudan, as it continues to document credible reports of serious human rights violations against civilians. The office said abuses have also been recorded in Kordofan and other parts of the country amid ongoing conflict.<\/p>\n
In a statement to Sudan Tribune, the OHCHR said its teams are monitoring the situation through direct interviews with victims and displaced people, as well as remote documentation due to restrictions on field access. It said these methods have enabled continued collection of evidence despite significant operational challenges.<\/p>\n
UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker T\u00fcrk visited Port Sudan last week, where he held talks with officials from the foreign and justice ministries and the public prosecutor. He also travelled to Northern State, which is hosting around 200,000 displaced people who fled violence in Darfur and Kordofan in recent months.<\/p>\n
During the visit, T\u00fcrk heard testimonies from displaced civilians describing abuses experienced before and during their displacement. He stressed the importance of documenting these accounts to support future accountability and prevent impunity for perpetrators.<\/p>\n
The OHCHR has accused the Rapid Support Forces of committing grave violations during fighting with the Sudanese army.
